2009 SPECIAL EXHIBITS and EVENTS

A local Venturing Crew recently constructed a "wigwam" on the Museum's grounds. The group will share information on its construction and the lifestyle of the native people who might have lived in this "single family dwelling." This youth development activity was organized and led by Board member, Dorette Murray and is part of the Museum's initiative to bring history to life for young people.building the wigwam

The 2009 season also featured three exhibits of "Oxford at War."

  • The Revolutionary War is a selection of letters written by Col. Tench Tilghman, aide-de-camp to
Gen. George Washington. Transcription by the Reverends Jay and Carolyn Bunting of Oxford.

  • The Civil War exhibit is the story of 33 cadets who graduated from Oxford's Maryland Military
Academy and what happened to each. Based on extensive research by Rev. Jay Bunting of Oxford.

  • The more recent history of World War II will be the focus of the third exhibit about Oxford's
Fletcher Hanks, Jr., and his wartime experiences "flying the hump" with CNAC.
